What I enjoy about tutoring is how both parties get to learn more about the world. Tutoring is usually seen as a one-way process where the tutor teaches the student, but I get a learning experience as well. I get to understand new teaching styles and learn cool facts from my students all of the time! I also enjoy seeing my students reach the "aha! I understand!" point, because they have grown into a position where they didn't envision themselves being in before. I want to help more people reach to those points and make them feel proud for the amount of effort they put in. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know my students and create a relationship where they feel comfortable asking me anything that will help them feel more at ease with their work. There are times when students are afraid to ask question because they seem "dumb," but I want them to know that there is no such thing! Learning is a process that I will gladly assist with. I also like to make goals on what areas they would like to improve on and ask my student how they plan to achieve them. This will create a sense of self-efficacy but with the support of a tutor that is rooting for their success.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always been ahead in school, so I was given opportunties to teach my peers the material in a new perspective. Teaching my peers and seeing them happy after understanding the material and acing their exams gave me a sense of happiness as well. I feel it is important to learn and share the knowledge with everyone who seeks it, because it creates a more open-minded and intellectual place. That is why I am offering my tutoring services to anyone who would like to learn more or needs help understanding topics.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages and students who need extra support due to intellectual disabilities. Every student is unique and needs a tailored study plan to ensure their success. Everyone deserves an opportunity to succeed and I will very happily help you reach your academic goals through creative educational plans!
