After teaching for over 20 years, I am experienced to help with all levels. My Bachelors and Masters of Art are in English/Creative Writing. I have co-authored a novel that is available on Amazon. I have also worked with English as Second Language learners. My strength is in helping my students create strong essays.
I taught for Brandman/Chapman University, National University, and the University of Phoenix. I have taught in the classroom and online. I am also experienced in offering classes to small classes -- one to three studensts.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I spend the first class getting to know my students and their expectations. I look over material they have written and give them immediate feedback.
During the next classes, I discuss approaches to writing and demonstrate how-tos. I give assignments and go over the students' completion of the assignment.
As always, student questions are answered and explained in full detail.

Bachelors of Art, English/Writing and a Masters of Art, English Writing; both completed at California State University, Long Beach

How did you get started teaching?
After graduate school, one of my college professors took an interest in my career and told me about a teaching job being offered at a local university. I applied, got the job, and stayed for over 20 years.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught university students straight out of high school. I have also taught returning students -- students who had started college, joined the military or started a family, and decided to come back to get the degree.
I have taught high school seniors with required tests for graduation and who then wanted to go on to the university.
I have taught Japanese and Korean businessmen transferred to work in the U.S. I have also worked with their families in their attempt to adjust to American culture.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love San Diego's December Nights. This event is held once a year during the first week-end in December. People from all over San Diego (and their guests, I assume) attend. All of the museums in Balboa Park are free and give guests a taste of art, culture, and history. Foods prepared from different parts of the world are also available.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
Students who need help in English as a Second Language or in writing -- essay, expository, argumentative, and other required styles -- need to ensure the tutor has plenty of experience in the field -- a degree in English is also a must because a person holding a Bachelors or Masters in English has the necessary knowledge to assist students.
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
Students should ask about the tutor's experience in teaching and should also ask what degrees are held.
