About

Hello future writers, thinkers, and scholars,

I’m a college-level English (both ESL and literature/composition) and Philosophy tutor with over two years of experience helping students think critically, write powerfully, and engage deeply with complex ideas. Although I am new to Tutors.com I’ve been working as a private tutor since beginning college, driven both by my academic strengths in English and Philosophy and my need to support my education, contribute to my family, and save for graduate school. My inspiration to begin tutoring came during my first semester in a critical thinking course that focused on English but was grounded in philosophical inquiry. One day, I assisted the professor in delivering a lecture on Jean-Paul Sartre. Not only did I find the experience deeply rewarding, but afterward, several classmates approached me to say that my explanation helped them finally understand the material. The professor later encouraged me to consider becoming a tutor. That moment affirmed something I already felt: I have a passion for teaching and a deep belief in the power of education. Tutoring has since become a natural and meaningful part of my life.

My capacity for analytical thinking was first shaped by my work as a meteorologist in the U.S. military. During my service I spent my time at work analyzing satellite images and meteorological data and I spent almost all of my free time researching for my dissertation, even though at the time I was years away from even attending college. Since transitioning into academia, I’ve written over 15 advanced essays across philosophy, psychology, and literature, and I’m currently working on an interdisciplinary book bridging philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience. I’m trained in academic writing, argument structure (including logical organization, critical reasoning, and rhetorical strategy), reflective composition (such as personal essays and self-analytical writing), and public speaking. I love helping students unlock their own voice and confidence through language. I also have extensive experience in philosophy, with a focus on ontology, epistemology, and existential thought, and have guided students through everything from introductory coursework to advanced analysis of figures like Plato, Nietzsche, and Sartre—as well as the development of their own original philosophical writing and ideas.

What sets my approach apart is a focus not just on results, but on clarity, creativity, and meaning. Every session is a balance of structure and flow—I meet you where you are and help you grow, whether you’re crafting a personal essay, unpacking a dense philosophical text, preparing for a speech or presentation, or developing your English fluency and confidence through conversation, writing, and guided practice.

Fall Promotion Note:

To celebrate the back-to-school season (for all ages) and welcome new students, I’m offering a limited-time promotional rate. All tutoring sessions booked and billed between August and December 2025 will be just $20 per hour — a 60% discount from my standard rate. My regular rate will resume in January 2026.

Please note: This promotion does not affect the initial consultation, which is always completely free. Our first session is dedicated to understanding your needs, learning goals, and making sure we're the right fit before we begin.

My standard rate is $50 per hour, which reflects not just the time we spend together, but the depth, clarity, and long-term value I bring to each session. I tailor every lesson to your individual needs, and I bring a level of attention, insight, and intellectual rigor that’s rare at this price point. That said, I understand that every learner’s situation is unique, and I’m happy to discuss flexible options depending on your goals, the intensity of support you need, and the overall scope of our work. For more involved projects that require significant time outside of sessions, rates may vary to reflect the additional attention and preparation involved.

I offer a free first session to learn about your goals, assess your current level, and ensure my approach aligns with your needs and expectations. This session also gives us a chance to explore your learning style and clarify what you hope to achieve—whether it’s mastering a subject, building long-term skills, or simply becoming more confident in your thinking and communication. My aim is to make every session productive, personalized, and purposeful before any commitment is made.

If you’re looking for a tutor who brings passion, precision, and purpose to every session, I’d be honored to support your learning journey. Let’s build something great together.

Elliott is well-spoken, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. He is skilled in essay writing, story articulation, and paying attention to details most people would miss. I wouldn’t have gotten through last semester without him. 10/10. :)

i started working with him cause a family member recommended him and he’s doing a fall discount (otherwise i def couldn’t afford it). we’ve only had one session so far but he’s really smart. kind of intense but in a good way. he made me a study plan that looks a little scary ngl but also makes me feel like i actually have a direction now. he gives off private tutor vibes, like the kind that usually works with rich families or college kids, but he’s super chill and not snobby at all, which i didn’t expect but really like.

Elliott was a fantastic tutor. He went slow in areas I struggled in, made it easy to understand and didn’t rush the learning process.

Great way of teaching, very casual but also stern when need be. Though out the lesson we would get into very intellectual conversation but never felt like a tangent. Thank you elliott!

I had the pleasure of being tutored in both English and Philosophy, and I can confidently say that the experience was exceptional. He has a natural ability to break down complex ideas and explain them in a way that’s clear, engaging, and easy to understand. His guidance helped me not only improve my writing and critical thinking but also develop a deeper appreciation for both subjects.
He was always patient, encouraging, and incredibly knowledgeable. Whether we were analyzing literature, constructing arguments, or preparing for exams, he consistently brought insight and clarity to our sessions. I truly felt more confident in my academic abilities thanks to his support.
I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a tutor.
