Science Tutoring - Mr. Stutsman
About
Hi, I am a high school Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Teacher. I have taught Biology and Chemistry for 3 years, Physics for 2 years, and Honors Physics for 1 year.
I have experience tutoring Honors Biology, General Chemistry, and AP Physics.
My educational background is in Life Science, specifically Molecular Biology.
Helping students understand scientific concepts, as well as mastering the type of thinking necessary to be successful in those concepts, is what excites me about teaching this subject most. I specialize in remote tutoring sessions that utilize online practice problems through interactive whiteboards.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to get to know my student so we can have a comfortable working relationship. I am also positive and warm. This allows the student to feel comfortable with asking questions about the material.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied science when I was in college and recieved a degree in Life Science. I also took a plethora of physical science courses during my time. To become credentialed in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, I had to pass exams to demonstrate my subject matter competency for each of those subjects. These are rigorous exams that need months of preparation in order to be passed.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is $60/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I began as a student Supplemental Instruction 'teacher' in my undergraduate years. Initially it was just a way to generate income. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This lead me to chase my teaching credential. As a way to generate experience to better myself as a teacher preparation program candidate, I began tutoring. Then, eventually I begin my teacher prep program and have since obtained my science teaching credential six years ago.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of ages 13-17, from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and races and ethnicities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This past year, at the high school I work at, students have the option to choose a teacher to hand them their diploma at graduation. I was honored to be chosen by one of my students.
