PLEASE CONTACT ME DIRECTLY AT [email protected] to bypass the high quote prices for tutors! Thank you :)
Hello! I am a recent UC Berkeley graduate having majored in Political Science and Public Policy studying to be a lawyer. I am offering beginner and intermediate (K-12) humanities tutoring & homework help spanning English, History, social studies, beginner-intermediate French, and SAT English portions. I took all of the humanities APs and SAT subject tests in high school and scored well on them, plus six years of French from high school to college. I am located in North San Jose (born and grew up in) and have 2 years of tutoring experience with elementary and middle school students. I also speak fluent Mandarin Chinese and can communicate easily with parents. I charge on a sliding scale depending on age, grade, and remote versus in-person learning, and can drive if needed. If interested, please don't hesitate to contact me! :)
Tutoring strategies:
- focusing on assessing how much progress the student has in the subject and addressing their weaknesses
- emphasizing active, engaged learning during the session rather than assigning heavy homework afterwards
- actively asking questions to students and encouraging their personal interpretation of the material

How did you get started teaching?
I wanted to harness my passion and experience in humanities to teach those who struggle with it to instead enjoy and excel at it. Students often struggle with humanities because there seem to be no rules and defined requirements, which makes them anxious as expectations are vague. I want to help them enjoy this creative freedom rather than be intimidated by it.
What types of students have you worked with?
Elementary and middle school students!
