What I enjoy about working with Hollywood sports psychology is that it is specific to areas that need improvement within one’s game. Coach has put me In a position to achieve at my D2 school in football at SMSU. And has helped me become an all around athlete. Now in the areas I used to struggle in, such as footwork, hip flexibility, and hand placement, I can say that I am fully adapted to my position specific movements, thanks to Hollywood Sports & Psychology.

Derek was my first position coach in the U.S. I’ve been in the U.S for 4 years and my first season with Derek was one I’ll never forget. He thought us how to deal with mentall toughness, he pushed us into believing that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. Even if your body is giving up. I earned honorable mention all conference playing for him and I end up at Morgan State which is a D1 school located in Baltimore, MD. I appreciate him for helping me get to this level. I handle my self here very well and part of that is because of the preparation I went through with Derek

If you want to reach your maximum potential mentally and physically, Coach Hursch is the man to place your trust. He was one of my Junior College Football coaches, and his tips to increase my strength, speed, mobility, sleep, etc. are second to none. His teachings helped me move on to Valparaiso University and play at the Division 1 Level. Anytime I would have a question about the mind, body or anything relating to football , he was one of the people I would go to with confidence I was going to learn something new and helpful. Coach Hurschs Leadership and knowledge helped me get to where I am and I can say with 100% certainty it can help any and every client who wants to improve their performance or lifestyle.

Coach Hursch is a man that always emphasizes technique and 110% effort. He was my D Line coach at COS, and not a single day went by where he didn’t bring the intensity and leadership needed to bring us together and set us straight. He’s a man who I believe is a valuable asset to any program lucky enough to have him. Besides being a phenomenal coach and leader on and off the field, he showed an exemplary level of love and caring for us. I once asked coach if he would be willing to give me some extra coaching with my technique, and advice on mental strength. Without hesitation he began to explain what steps I needed to take to improve myself, and became someone I knew I could always trust and follow.
I believe it is an indisputable fact that he will help develop and positively change any program he is associated with.

The best thing that I liked working with Hollywood Sport & Psychology is the adversity that they put me through! They pushed me to the limit that I thought I couldn’t reach and it was truly a game changer! They are very flexible to exercises to incorporate to your comfort and they are flexible to work on the things that you are not use to! Not only the workouts was the best thing but then actually getting to know me and understanding where I come from! It just made me feel right at home with a GREAT TRAINER! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to go check out HOLLYWOOD SPORT & PSYCHOLOGY!

Coach Hursch was my football coach at my junior college in 2020. I’ve never had a coach that had narrowed all of the things he had us do to a science like him. Not only did he improve me physically but he helped me mentally with stressing the importance of exercising mental health and reading books. Thanks to him I was able to have a very successful career at that school and I now play football at Southern Oregon University

Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student, my first priority is to build a professional yet supportive relationship. I take time to understand your academic background, strengths, and specific goals in reading, writing, and psychology. These sessions are not simply about completing assignments — they are about developing lasting skills and confidence. I encourage open communication so that you can express what you hope to achieve, and in turn, I can provide clear, strategic guidance on how we will reach those goals together.

I hold a Master of Science degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Sport Science, and I am currently completing a Doctorate (PsyD) in Performance and Clinical Psychology. My academic training includes extensive study in psychology, cognitive development, communication, and applied learning strategies — all of which directly support my tutoring in reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. In addition to my academic background, I am a former international professional athlete and college football coach. Through my work with student-athletes in both academic and athletic settings, I developed a passion for teaching, mentoring, and helping individuals achieve both academic and personal excellence.
My tutoring services are designed for students who are committed to making real progress in reading, writing, and psychology. With over 20 years of experience in education, coaching, and psychology, I provide personalized support that focuses on your unique needs and goals. I charge $100 per hour, a rate that reflects my expertise and commitment to helping you achieve academic success. Together, we will work to develop the skills and strategies you need to succeed, whether that’s improving writing, building critical thinking, or refining study techniques.
I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, where education and athletics both played major roles in my life. While pursuing my professional football career overseas, I was invited back to one of my alma maters, College of the Siskiyous, to coach the defensive line. In addition to coaching on the field, I worked closely with players in academic study halls, helping them improve their reading, writing, and overall academic performance to maintain eligibility and pursue university scholarships. That experience sparked my passion for teaching and mentoring — not just in sports, but in academics as well. Since then, I have continued my work in education, earning a master’s degree, advancing into doctoral study, and tutoring students to help them reach their academic and personal goals.
I have worked with a wide range of students, including high school and college students, student-athletes balancing academics and sports, and adult learners returning to education. My experience includes supporting students in reading comprehension, writing skills, academic study habits, and personal development. I have also worked with students preparing for AP courses, college entrance exams, and personal statements. Through both academic and athletic coaching, I have helped individuals with diverse learning styles, academic challenges, and personal goals achieve success.
Forgive me, but I will share two: One event I'm especially fond of happened when I was coaching and tutoring at the college level. I had a football player who, at the start of the season, struggled to write a basic college-level essay. By the end of the season, after working together consistently on his reading and writing skills, he not only passed his courses but earned a football scholarship to a four-year university. Watching his confidence grow — not just on the field, but academically — was incredibly rewarding and reminded me why I’m so passionate about combining education, mentoring, and personal development in the work I do. The other event I’m fond of happened while I was coaching and mentoring college athletes. I often recommended books in casual conversations with my players, just sharing ideas I thought might help them grow personally and academically. What I didn’t realize at the time was that so many of them were actually going to the college library to check out the books I had mentioned. One day, the librarian emailed our head coach to say she had never seen so many football players requesting books — and the head coach had no idea it was because of me. That moment showed me the deeper impact small moments of encouragement can have on a student’s academic mindset and growth.

Be excited, curious, open, and most of all hard working.

Before talking to teachers or tutors about their needs, students should think about a few key questions: What specific subjects, skills, or assignments am I struggling with? What are my short-term and long-term academic goals? How do I prefer to learn — for example, do I learn best by reading, writing, discussing, or doing hands-on activities? What has worked for me in the past, and what hasn’t? Am I willing to commit to the effort needed to reach my goals, even if the work is challenging? Thinking through these questions ahead of time helps students have a clearer conversation, set realistic goals, and get the most out of their sessions.
