About
For over 25 years, Martha Infante Thorpe has engaged the minds of diverse learners of Southern California. As a National Board Certified Social Studies Teacher, Martha has taught and tutored students at the middle and high school level.
Martha's specialties are underachieving gifted students, reluctant learners, and students on the autism spectrum, however all students are welcomed!
As a Fulbright scholar, Martha has gained effective tutoring strategies from Finland, China, and Japan. In conjunction with tried and true techniques from home, students overwhelmingly rate her classes as engaging, informative, low-stress, and easy to understand.
As a consultant to the California Department of Education, Martha led an education commission to build a Blueprint for Public Schools, which was the foundation for the State Superintendent of Public Schools Tom Torlakson's second term. The resulting policy document was called Greatness by Design, which mirrors what can be accomplished by a quality tutoring relationship.
Finally, as the Past President of the California Social Science Association, Martha has access to a wide array of resources to augment and enhance tutoring sessions.
History is fascinating, and if shared the right way, students can find meaning and engagement in the various courses offered during their secondary schooling. Having worked with thousands of students, I love helping students find a joy for learning, even if it means using non-traditional methods.
