Ashley's ESL Tutoring

Hey there!

First, a little about me. I completed my B.A. at CSULB with a major in Linguistics and minor in Anthropology. My research foci included: corpus linguistic methods for analysis of authorship attribution, various aspects that effect second language acquisition, sociolinguistic approaches to discourse analysis and discursive frames, as well as cultural differences and approaches to language learning.

Well, I started tutoring college students as part of my undergraduate education. Later, I got a position tutoring through my college (CSULB). I've worked tutoring second language learners for the last year and have grown to absolutely love it! In addition to professional tutoring, I was raised with international students and have helped them in their studies and homework as their "sister".

Alongside that, I've worked with children's education from 1st-8th grade for many years. I held a position as a children's director for 2 years. Also, I have worked teaching piano lessons to children for 7 years.

I love watching students learn and grow. There's nothing more fulfilling than seeing a student understand a difficult concept and come closer to their educational goals. I desire to see students engage in their studies and come to enjoy their schoolwork. I hope that I can help students see new ways to approach their work and see that learning English is possible!

I have experience teaching various aspects of ESL studies: writing construction and styles, grammar, vocabulary, conversation, public speaking, proofreading, and some literary analysis.

I also can help with other subjects in regards to understanding the English texts (such as understanding questions, homework write-ups, etc.).
