Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I always start with these questions, with the parent present, and I tell them they must answer truthfully:
1. Are you going to class?
2. Are you staying awake?
3. Do you ask questions in class?
4. Are you doing your homework? (Doing does not mean copying another student's work.)
5. Do you check your answers and ask questions when you get one wrong?
Beyond that, in a perfect world, a tutoring session should have the student's homework already done. You're not paying for a homework babysitter! We can then address any questions relating to the homework then move on to the next section so the student is prepared for the next lecture in advance.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a full, clear CA teaching credential specializing in math.
I also have an MA in Secondary Education and a BS in Medical Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry.
