About
Hi there,
I am an English Literature graduate from California State University, Long Beach. I currently work as a high school English teacher and have done so for the past 4 years. I also have over 8 years experience doing private tutoring with students of various ages. I am comfortable with and confident in my ability to work with people of various ages. Primarily I am asked to help students work on their reading comprehension and writing skills (i.e. grammar, punctuation, essay structure, critical thinking, etc). When working with students I like to ask questions and guide them to answers and understanding rather than simply talking at students. I find that this helps to include the student in the learning more which ultimately helps him or her internalize concepts better. To me, tutoring is a collaborative effort, and a student who feels comfortable learns easier.
I'm comfortable working with students between grades 7-12 up to undergraduate college students. An important part of tutoring is developing a rapport with students, which I always seek to grow. I always try to understand the individual needs of a student, and work to meet their need based on that. I also try to gear my tutoring to the way that a student best retains knowledge. No two students are the same, so no lesson should be the same either.
If I can be of any help, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. That's what I'm here for.
