I Can Read, Write, And Do Math!
About
My passion is working with developing students who could benefit from 1:1 support to build a solid foundation in reading, writing, and/or math. This generally leads to a boost in confidence and renewed enthusiasm for learning. Culminating with a master's degree in Literacy and Reading Instruction, my background in education, psychology, counseling, and biology has afforded me a well-rounded approach to teaching. I have over 10 years of experience providing academic support in schools and as a tutor. Additionally, I have received training in the Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Reading System approaches to reading instruction and intervention. I employ multisensory methods to activate multiple pathways to the brain for processing and assimilating information as well as to promote conceptual understanding. I get to know my students and their strengths, following their lead in showing me how best to tailor instruction to meet their specific learning needs and goals. I possess a warm, gentle, caring demeanor and exercise patience in order to optimize the learning environment. With all the positivity and encouragement I can muster, my goal is for your child to embrace what makes them who they are and to believe in themselves as capable and able learners.
