About

I finished my Master of Arts in English Literature curriculum at Cal State University, Fullerton and, simultaneously, I finished my secondary teaching program curriculum there as well. I've written thousands of essays in a testing environment and for long-form analysis. I have also taught essay writing as well.

I student-taught Honors Literature and Composition at the Orange County High School of the Arts. Because many of my students in 8th and 10th grades were dancers, artists, musicians, filmmakers, actors, I found that I needed to teach English creatively and visually, kinetically, and auditorially in order to connect the subjects to them and to keep them engaged.

In addition, for over the past twelve years, I have worked in advertising and marketing as an account director and writer. This means I can also teach practical business writing, business pitches, press releases, creative writing, and copywriting.

What makes me different is that I have been a parent, a student, a teacher, and I've successfully published my writing skills in the business world in a wide variety of ways. Not many English teachers have all of these experiences as also possess both educational and business experience.

Let me help you succeed at your goals and help coach you to reach your aspirations.

I enjoy connecting with younger generations, seeing them grow and learn, and watching "the lightbulb" light up when ideas click in. Most of all, I enjoy learning from my students as well. English is always evolving, words and semantics change, and colloquialisms are not always easy to grasp.

I enjoy discussing ideas and connecting my students interests and passions to the assignments they've been given.

    Frequently asked questions

It all depends on the learning objective and what needs to happen and how quickly it needs to happen.

Typically, at first, I like to get to know the student, learn about their interests, talk about their challenges, what they like and dislike about learning.

Then, I figure out where they are academically, look at test scores, look at writing samples, and talk to them about the feedback they receive from teachers or professors.

From there, we establish goals and milestones in our assignments so there's a sense of achievement and progress.

I have been a student, a teacher, and a parent of two grown daughters so I can empathize and understand the challenges that students may experience. I am patient and creative in my teaching but I also establish individual standards that I feel my students must feel responsible for.

I have also worked at a writer and as an executive in a creative business environment (advertising), so I can also advise and teach business and creative writing as well.

Last, I have worked as a teacher in forensics and can help students with their speeches and public speaking.
