I also work as a tutor for Do Your Homework at the Library (DYH@L), where I tutor students K-8, but sometimes high school and college as well. I have also been recently been accepted to tutor on tutor.com (the Pierson's Review tutoring service). And I have a master's degree in progress.
First of all, I have a passion for helping students, which is why I have worked with students my entire life. Second of all, I enjoy the process of breaking down problems into smaller, more manageable steps and planning out how we are going to attack them. Working with smaller steps makes problems less overwhelming, easier to understand, and easier to solve. Third of all, I enjoy the process of helping students write essays and research papers (even paragraphs). Fourth of all, I also love helping students read and have a lot of experience in that area as well (I read with students every day). Lastly, I also enjoy working with students from different cultures, abilities, and backgrounds.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We discuss what the student needs help with. Then, based on their needs, we set up a location and time to meet. I prefer meeting in local libraries. Depending on what a student needs help with, we may meet on a regular basis. When we are finished with the tutoring session, the student's parents pay for their session through paypal.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I work as a tutor for Do Your Homework at the Library who I have been with for three years. I tutor all subjects for DYH@L and work there from 2:30 p.m-5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price is $25/hour but that is negotiable.
How did you get started teaching?
I have teacher training. But it all started in 1998 when I was a teacher's aide for a French class. I learned there that I love working with students. I have been a T.A., a substitute teacher, and a student teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from diverse cultures and abilities. I have also worked with students who have IEPs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am fond of celebrating my nephew's birthday. He turned thirteen, what a milestone!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Experience tutoring or teaching is important. Also, their experience tutoring or teaching your subject is very important. Give that tutor a try, but if you do not benefit from their tutoring, find another tutor.
