I am choosing to go into teaching because I think htere is something so special about a child discovering the joy of learning, and I want to be a part of that discovery. I did'nt like books until I got to college, and I want to help that happen for students sooner.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have an initial meeting to gage exactly what the student needs more help with. From there we set up a plan of action for how I can help the student reach their highest potential in the subject.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in French Literature and a BA in English Literature from Whittier College. I spent a year at the Paris University (Sorbonne Paris IV) perfecting my language studies in French.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rates can range from $25-$40/ hour depending on the students age, travel time and level of help needed.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I am now fulfilling my goals of doing so, and tutoring is one of the most intriguing ways of helping students outside of the traditional classroom setting.
What types of students have you worked with?
I taught my first class while I was abroad in Paris, I worked as an English Teacher and American Culture teacher. From there I have worked with College Freshmen as a writing tutor and more recently K-12 students looking for some help with writing, critical reading, language studies and French language.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
In looking for a tutor or private teacher, making sure that the tutor works with your goals as much as their success is crucial. That is why I do a first meeting in order to see what level of help is needed. I also do this to ensure that the student feels they are able to be forthcoming with what is actually difficult to them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think it is absolutely necessary to be completely transparent with your teacher or tutor in terms of addressing your needs as a student. So often students can forget that we are there to help and guide them in their journey toward academic success. I am willing and able to work with any level of study and any level of difficulty.
