About

When I was going through elementary and middle school, I struggled in school, more specifically in math. Without all the support from my teachers and the tutors I had, I wouldn't be doing what I love most today. Tutoring brings me so much joy. I look forward to working with each and every one of my students. I have been tutoring for 6 years now.

Without the struggles I went through, I probably would not love tutoring as much as I do right now. Seeing my student's progress from when I had just started working with them to a couple of months of working with them is jaw-dropping. I have helped so many of my students who were D's and F's students become A's and B's students; students who could've cared less about school now are motivated to earn good grades! What more could I ask for? Many of my students complain to me that they don't understand their teacher's explanations, especially when it comes to math. Unfortunately, it is a common theme.

I cater to each and every one of my student's needs. I understand that each student learns differently. Sometimes I may need to explain one concept to a student in multiple ways before they understand, but that is okay. I know many teachers, but not all, tend to explain a concept one way and that does not work for all students.

I enjoy seeing the change of heart my students have regarding school. Seeing the parent's reactions at the end of the quarter or semester is something I look forward to. For instance, last year, I had a student that had all D's and F's in his third quarter. I began working with him near the end of his third quarter but was able to help him bring his grades up to all C's so he was passing at least. In his last quarter, he earned all A's and B's! The best part is, that his parents were astonished.

I love seeing the little light bulb go off in my students' heads when they understand a concept after I explain it to them. As a student, there is nothing more frustrating than struggling to grasp the material and falling behind in class because of it.

    Frequently asked questions

Before working with a new student, I learn everything I can about a student when conversing with the parent. I ask questions regarding what subject the child struggles with the most, how long the child has been struggling for if there are any learning disabilities I should look out for; these are some of the basic questions I ask the parent(s) to learn more about the child and who I will be working with.

If it is during the school year, I help them complete their homework; no I do not do it for them. I offer homework help during the school year, and then as they do the homework, I assess to see what it is specifically that they are struggling with. For instance, I look for a lack of critical thinking skills, lack of reading comprehension, lack of understanding, etcetera.

During the summer, I tend to do either workbooks or worksheets. Sometimes the parent or child has a preference, which is fine. I am able to accommodate.

I have worked with students who have been multiple grade levels behind, students who just need a little extra support, and students who are advanced. In addition, I have experience working with students who have autism, varying severities, ADD/ADHD, as well as a couple of other learning disabilities. I have experience with students who have IEPs or a 504 plan at school.

Make sure you connect with the teacher. Make sure you are comfortable!! It does not matter if your parent likes the tutor/teacher, you have to like the person.
