I am very good at asking students questions and examining student work to figure out what concepts students are not getting. Then I target those mistakes to help students learn, rather than just showing student how to complete a problem procedurally. This way, students can better remember what they are doing.
I have a California Single Subject Credential in Mathematics and also a Supplementary Credential in Computer Concepts and Applications. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask the student to think aloud with the work they are having trouble with, so I get a sense of how much to back up. If students don't feel comfortable doing that yet, then I ask some questions to see where they are.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a credentialed teacher in CA. I have been teaching fulltime since 2020. I am now teaching fulltime at Chabot College.
