I have 11 years of experience in Elementary Literacy. I taught First Grade for 8 years and am currently serving as a teacher on special assignment with a focus on Early Literacy. I have deep knowledge in how to best teach children how to read and write.
The best moments come from seeing children who only knew letter sounds, learn to become a fluent reader!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically we begin by getting to know each other. Through this session, we read a couple books together and I take a writing sample. I also like to preform a Word Inventory Test to assess where they are in their phonics progression. This enables me to know where best to start in our journey!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I completed my education and credentialing process through the CSU system. In my career thus far, I have received 2 years of early literacy training and coaching from a Scholastic representative.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have mainly worked with students in First Grade. I have also tutored students anywhere from Kindergarten to Third Grade. I have worked with students who are falling behind in reading and writing, along with students who are above grade level and would like to continue this growth!
