I absolutely love watching someone's face light up when a subject or an idea that they never thought they'd understand finally clicks in their head. I also love watching my pupils blossom with confidence as they find themselves mastering - and even enjoying - the subjects they once dreaded. But above all else, my favorite part of this work is watching my pupils open an acceptance letter to the college of their dreams after months of work to see the word "CONGRATULATIONS" written across the top.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first focus is etablishing a trust relationship. It is important for them to understand that I am a resource and a person of trust they can can reach out to for more than just help on homework. My next emphasis is understanding their learning styles. I do this through asking them to take a short quiz for me or just asking them about their methods of studying (if they have any). You cannot teach a student whose learning style you do not know; learning styles are the key to helping a student retain information and enjoy learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have excelled in various writing classes at a top tier university, but beyond that I have participated in various workshops that have prepared me for making English more accessible to vuleranle youth. I also have about 3 years of experience tutoring elementary school from grades K-8 in English and Spanish. In my perspective, when it comes to tutoring real world experience is just as valuable -if not more valuable- than textbook knowledge. Being in a similar age category as alot of my students is often very helpful because it makes it easier for me to make content more relatable and thus it's easier to understand.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages from grades K-12 from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Most of my work has been dedicated to underserved communities.
