About
My approach to teaching is more holistic and personal which is the best way to allow students to reach their fullest potential. Throughout my education, my most memorable teachers were passionate about the subject they were teaching and truly enjoyed it. My teaching philosophy is to share my passion for science and the environment and do so in a way that is exciting and showcases how fun it can be to learn about the natural world.
My educational background includes a Bachelors and Masters of Science and several years of professional work as a teacher and researcher. Over the past decade I have conducted field research in tropical and temperate marine ecosystems spanning the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans, resulting in six published articles including a cover article featured in Nature (world's leading multidisciplinary science journal). Given my history of teaching and scientific research I am able to effectively communicate complex information and relate topics with my firsthand experience in the natural world.
That "ah ha!" moment when a topic really clicks for the student and they can begin to enjoy and think critically about a subject- beyond memorizing definitions and concepts.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Every student has a different learning style. My approach is to try several different techniques early on, to see which one resonates the most with the student.
