Hi! My name is Evelyn Lo and I am a private tutor currently studying at UC Berkeley. I am majoring in Economics and have a GPA of 3.9 In high school, I received a 1550 SAT score on the 1600 point scale, as well as a 4.2 cumulative GPA. I was Captain of the Speech and Debate Team, President of Mock Trial, and President of Model United Nations, meaning I am open to teaching public speaking as well. I am dedicated to ensuring students achieve their goals and will always support them throughout their academic journey. I hope you let me help you with your own journey!
I've always adored helping others--seeing the smile on their faces when they finally understand a concept or problem fills me with an unparalled joy. I also wish to form meaningful friendships with my students that enable us to have fun while learning. I dislike the traditional teacher-student tutoring style in which the tutor drones on for hours while the student is on the verge of falling asleep. Instead, I love that my lessons are extremely interactive and enjoyable for both of us!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, I like to give them a diagnostic test to see their strengths and areas where they can improve. From there, we work on improving their "weaknesses." I also ask students individually what they believe they need to work on, so I can plan my lessons according to their needs. I hope to aid students in the best way possible, all while forming a friendly bond with them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a peer tutor for 2 years and have tutored all ages--elementary through high school students. I've assisted with English, Math, Science, and History, and am confident I can help you with SAT prep as well. Additionally, as Captain of the debate team, I coached my teammates to competitive success and have led countless to qualify to the State Championship.
