Socratic Tutoring

Hello Fellow Learner! I am here to listen to and help guide you through the project(s) you're working on or the subject(s) you're studying. I have over 10 years of experience in education, 5 of which have been tutoring students one-on-one and in groups across the US- LA, HI, and NYC. I have tutored students ranging from three years of age to graduate students, in traditional grade school subjects as well as in undergraduate and graduate niche subjects. I love helping students connect with their studies in a personal way by discovering how they learn and building their confidence in continuing to learn on their own.

I earned my two Masters of Arts from Teachers College, Columbia University. The first MA is in Philosophy and Education where I studied Ancient Greek to contemporary philosophy, sharpened my analytical thinking and academic writing skills, and expanded my scope of philosophical inquiry and dialogue. The second MA is in Clinical and Counseling Psychology where I studied traditional and nontraditional psychological theories and practices, course assisted in therapy and psychology courses, and facilitated Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and mindfulness in a NYC public school as part of my practicum. With that said, my scope of philosophy and psychology are expansive and expanding- my interests and ability to interpret material range from nonwestern to traditional/western philosophy and psychology. I am up for discussion on any philosopher or theorist from any and every cultural context!

I earned my Bachelors of Arts from the University of Hawai'i at Mnoa in History focusing on Native American, East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, and Middle Eastern histories. I strongly believe in the power of storytelling and use storytelling to relate students to their course materials, drawing on their everyday experiences as a focal point of connection. I have taught Western Civilization and continue to tutor history as a beloved subject.

My experience with academic writing has been: 1) my personal evolution as an academic writer, 2) graduate level thesis writing course which included peer assessment, and 3) tutoring and assessing students and peers outside my discipline. My work as a writing tutor consists of organizing arguments and references, editing structure and ideas, and proofreading.

During our session, you can expect to: 1) share with me your syllabus and/or coursework history up to the present in order for us to determine any reoccurring obstacles you may be encountering and from there, 2) we can start to uncover more clearly your learning style, create personalized note taking, studying, and/or reviewing techniques to apply to your current assignments and class lectures, and 3) you will not only feel and do better, you will come to learn how to adapt and grow with your learning style.
