Life Science Tutoring

About

I have been teaching and tutoring since 2009. I have instructed biotechnology courses at UC Davis as well as taught different biology and botany courses.

I am a professional plant scientist, but I was in academia a long time. I love opening new world's and perspectives to my students. Biology is so complex and wondrous.

    Frequently asked questions

I tailor my teaching style to the student's strengths. There are different learning styles and goals. I like to find out the student expectations and capabilities, and use those to set the pace of the tutoring.

I have a BS in biotechnology, a MS focusing on molecular genetics and a PhD focusing on plant sciences and pathology.

Typically, my rate is $25/ hour.

I started teaching as a teaching assistant in graduate school, and I never stopped.

I have worked with all kinds of students from kindergartners learning about plants, to 4H middle school students, to highschool FFA students, to undergraduate and graduate students from all walks of life.

Just recently, a student of mine from 7 years ago and I ran into each other in town. She was so excited to see me and told me how when I worked with her on vegetable crops, she had learned enough to get a summer internship at a nearby company. And, that internship had turned into a full time job where she still works to this day.

Find a tutor that will teach you why things are, not just wrote memorization. Biology is so complex that if you don't understand how things work, there's not enough time in the world to memorize each individual thing.

What is your goal? What is your timeline? What is your schedule? Do you need review? How specific is the scope of your material?
