As a tutor, I try to make sure that my teaching is simple yet effective. I work with all types of teaching techniques, as I believe that everyone learns differently.

I earned a Bachelors Degree with a dual major in Math and Physics and a minor in Computer Science in 1983. I have had a career using those skills in IT as a programmer, pre sales and customer support. I have always enjoyed a role where I combine technical skills and people skills. I was a tutor in college, I tutored my own children in Math and Science, and at one point I pursed a teaching credential in California and completed CBEST, then decided to refocus on my IT career. I am retired now and want to focus on tutoring and sharing my love for math and science again.

I emphasize that there is clearly a difference between “doing the math” versus “understanding the math”. I help students understand that math is a progressive learning experience. As the student advances his/her math studies I show how follow on courses expand on the basic formulas and theorems to solve more complex problems applicable to the real world of science. I believe in a traditional approach to math. The student needs to understand each basic theorem and formula and view it as a tool for problem solving.
