About
Hi, I'm Lilia Patterson, a "rising" third-year law student here in San Francisco. I come from a long line of educators and, long term, would love to be a legal professor. Law school has given me very particular tools for improving my writing and improving testing outcomes.
Before law school, I graduated cum laude from Arizona State University with a degree in political science. While at Arizona State, I worked with an organization that specialized in teacher-outreach and assisted in research sponsored by a federal grant to evaluate the most effective techniques for teaching English Language Learners. I have worked with a variety of ages in the process of conducting that research. This unique experience allows me an interesting perspective - combining doctrinal work with real-life understanding of how being a student really is right now. Given my major, I really enjoy history, civics, writing, and exam prep; however, I will always love my high-school-level math and science courses. I can help students with their APs, SATs, and ACTs, not only because I was there (not that long ago), but also because I was able to improve my own scores then and regularly use those study techniques now.
My goal is for students to not only get the "right" answer, but also understand why that answer is correct and how to connect it to their other subjects, life experiences, or pop culture. In my experience, that fosters a greater long-term retention of the material and makes one passionate about learning. I welcome parents' at-home involvement with assignments and parent feedback.
