Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Introduce myself, listen to the tutee's aims and expectations of the course. Depending on their goals, I'll work out a plan to reach them and follow it if the tutee agrees on it.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a business administration student with a concentration in finance and minor in mathematics. I am also an official tutor at Al Akhawayn University. I tutor 13 subjects which I already passed with an A or A+. My most requested sessions are related to mathematics and quantitative statistics.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a standard pricing of 25$/hr for all subjects.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching my classmates since I had quicker methods and efficient ones to understand my lessons, but then my quantitative methods of business professor asked me to apply for a tutoring job, and that's what I did during my freshman year. Now that it's been more than 2 years of working as a part-time tutor, I would like to expand my business and dedicate more time to it.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students are human beings, and human beings happen to be different, thus understand life differently. When it comes to tutoring, I like to know if the student is a visual learner so that I draw more tables, use graphs, sketches, and pie charts. If the student is a listener, I'd do presentations and "chalk and talk" sessions. Apart from their learning styles, there is behavior. I encoutered some students who get bored or lose focus from time to time so I ask them questions when I have just explained a concept to keep them in check.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
12 Morocccan students were chosen by the Nasa to discover the aerospace from an NS point of view. I think that the event was interesting and enriching on all levels since the students were constantly analyzing every bit of what they had discovered all along the journey.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for the tutor who will understand your needs and listen to your wants. A tutor's job is to be adaptable to the learner's different aims and work to achieve them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What am I doing to help me learn?
What do I already know and not know about this?
What is my role in learning this?
Am I ready to adapt to change if what I'm learning requires it?
