The Write Source Tutoring Services
About
I believe that every writer has a voice. Everyone with a voice can be a writer. I love helping writers figure out what they want to say and how to say it, whether for a class assignment, a scholarship application or in a creative writing project. I provide comprehensive writing support for writers at any level, on any writing project, from college essay to screenplay. As a college and high school educator and published professional writer with an MFA, I am proficient in American academic writing conventions, English grammar, punctuation and formatting (MLA/APA/Chicago). I particularly love to support writers on scholarship applications, personal statements, cover letters, rhetorical strategy and creative writing projects.
For nine years, I have taught and tutored writing professionally. While teaching English Composition (I and II), Poetry and Academic Writing courses at two top R1 American universities, I mentored writers with diverse skillsets, backgrounds and writing experiences. I have ample ESL/TESOL experience working with multilingual students, as well. I began professional tutoring in 2012 as a university writing center Lead Consultant and tutored undergraduates, graduate students, community members (including veterans) in scholarly, professional, and creative writing skills. Eventually, I was asked to manage the campus-wide email consultation platform as Program Coordinator. In my most recent role as Professional Writing Specialist at a UC Writing Center, I provided synchronous and asynchronous writing support to undergraduate writers both in-person and online. Students from across the disciplines sought feedback on academic English, rhetorical awareness, multimodal composition, citation conventions and scholarship applications. As a reader for the university's Annual Writing Placement Exam, I am well-versed in formative writing challenges and how diverse life experiences can affect college preparedness. I am also familiar with the publishing experience. I have published writing in a variety of genres, including academic writing, poetry and journalism and am currently an active member of the Society for Children's Books Writers and Illustrators.
I work with writers where and how they are by practicing improvisation and flexibility. My tutoring approach begins with a conversation about the client's writing experience, education, concerns and goals. Based on the client's writing goals, I prepare an action plan: an individualized blend of written, spoken, and visual direction. A typical, hour-long consultation includes a 10-minute grounding session and overview of writing goals, 40 minutes of active writing exercises and 10 minutes of action planning. Together, we find what works for you as a writer.
I can't wait to work with you!

WRITTEN FEEDBACK
For writers only seeking written feedback, I offer email consultations. Simply send me the following:
1) Your writing (For an essay, it doesn't have to be a complete draft.)
2) The prompt (if there is one one) or the primary goal of your writing project.
3) At least 3-4 specific questions or concerns you have about your writing's content, clarity, structure, or style.
Your writing will be carefully read more than once. I provide comments on content, organization, structure, language use and formatting. Then, I offer guidelines for editing and suggest next steps for revision. I also suggest outside resources that may strengthen your writing practice.
