About
I am an experienced, patient and passionate tutor with proven success in raising my students’ grades, as well as boosting their confidence.
I have been doing private 1:1 tutoring (on and off, both paid and volunteer) for about 30 years. I have been a full time private tutor (my own business) for the last 4 years. Tutoring is not something I do on the side like some college students or retired teachers. It is my career and I am fully committed to my students and their success.
I prepare structured lesson plans that are completely customized to each of my student’s level, goals and needs (materials and practice worksheets included). And I keep the sessions interactive so that students stay focused, engaged and motivated.
I absolutely LOVE working as a tutor! It's incredibly rewarding to watch my students learn, grow, gain confidence and achieve success. I am passionate about empowering students to succeed by tapping into their learning potential!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I assess the student’s current level, strengths and areas for improvement. I also ask what the student’s goals are (for ex, improve my math grade, learn to read, review last year’s math so I can be better prepared for next year’s math or expand my vocabulary in Spanish for my upcoming trip to Mexico). Then I put together a tutoring plan that maps out what topics we will focus on, what materials we will use and a timeline, including how often we should meet and for how long.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated high school valedictorian with a 4. 3 GPA. I have an undergraduate degree from Georgetown Univ (where I graduated Summa Cum Laude) and an MBA from UCLA. I have been doing private 1:1 tutoring (on and off, both paid and volunteer) for about 30 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer the first 1 hour session for 50% off so you can try out my tutoring services and make sure it's a good fit.
After that, I charge $30/hr.
How did you get started teaching?
I first fell in love with tutoring when I volunteered as a middle school math tutor for inner city kids in Washington DC.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have tutored a wide variety of subjects, including all levels of math, language arts, all levels of Spanish and English as a Second Language.
And I have tutored a wide range of grades and ages, from kindergarten through college (and adults too).
I encourage you to speak to my references!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Decide what’s important to you in a teacher and ask them lots of questions in advance! Do one trial session to see if you understand how he/she explains things. Be sure you like the teacher and that you “click” together.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals for tutoring (what do you hope to accomplish)?
For the subject you are getting help with, what are you good at? What specifically do you need help with?
How do you learn best? With explanations, examples, practice, etc?
