About
My service stands out because of my technical expertise in English and Spanish as well as my experience in both learning and teaching said languages. I have worked and enrolled in higher education in Mexico and the USA, which has given me specialized knowledge about the languages in academic and professional settings. Although I give great importance to grammar and vocabulary, my experience as a language learner and teacher has taught me that fluency in a language is not achieved solely through memorizing its rules and words. Thus, cultural immersion and constant practice are also fundamental parts of my service.
I was raised in Mexicali (a small Mexican city bordering the US) and had the privilege to complete most of my education in the US. This means that I’ve always been surrounded and enriched by multiple cultures, which has given me great advantages in my academic, professional, and personal lives. Nevertheless, I realize that not everyone has had the same exposure as I have, and my goal as a tutor is to help those people enhance their lives by aiding their linguistic (and cultural) education. What I enjoy the most about tutoring is watching my tutees not only grow their communication skills in a new language but also experiencing how their worldview expands as they engage with and understand a new culture.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I do is conduct a free one on one session where the student and I get to know each other. This helps me assess the student's needs and motivations for planning a curriculum, and it allows the student to have some time to deliberate whether my services are appropriate for their needs. After the first session, I will give the student a tailored "syllabus" with lessons and assignments for each session. The lessons and assignments revolve around the technical understanding of the language, cultural immersion, practice, and my feedback. Finally, after the student has reached a certain level of proficiency, I like teaching a new topic not related to linguistics in the student's target language (for example teaching a student who is learning Spanish about the stock market in Spanish). This helps them internalize the language as a means of communication and encourages fluency.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$18-$25 per session depending on circumstances.
Discounts apply for two or more people having a session together.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1.- Why am I learning this language? Do I have specific goals in mind (such as a test)?
2.-What is my level of proficiency? (You can find free proficiency level tests on the internet)
3.- What interests me about the culture of the people who speak that language? (Art, sports, literature, politics, technology, etc.)
4.-How often should/can I do sessions?
