About this tutor

Helping students discover the excitement and fun in science through engaging lessons and activities is my ultimate goal.

I am certified in the state of California to teach Biology, Physics, and Chemistry at the Middle and High School level and have been privately tutoring in these subjects for over 8 years.

I have a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a Single Subject Teaching Credential from Cal State San Bernardino, and am currently completing my Masters in Education: Curriculum and Instruction at Concordia University, Irvine.

I enjoy watching students transition into a place where they enjoy learning and begin to feel excitement when exlporing new science concepts! The expression on a students face when a topic finally clicks is the most rewarding thing for a teacher.

Kourtney tutored me in Biology and helped me maintain an A throughout the second portion of the school year. I’ve always dreaded science but she actually makes Biology interesting! She went out of the way to explain concepts to me in multiple ways until I understood. I’m so grateful we worked together, she is the best tutor I’ve ever had!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I always figure out the students current level of understanding by informally assessing them with a standardized assessment. I also spend the first session learning about the students interests and hobbies so that I can attempt to incorporate those interests when teaching a particular topic so that the student remains engaged and interested.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences, a Single Subject Credential to teach BIology, Physics, and Chemistry at the secondary level, and am currently completing my Masters in Education: Curriculum and Instruction.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

pricing can be discussed on a case by case basis.

How did you get started teaching?

I have a passion for science, and sharing the ideas of science and love the youthfullness and energy of young students, so teaching was an obvious choice for me!

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with students of all ages, ranging from kindergarten to high school. In addition to private tutoring, I have also worked as a Substitute Teacher in all grade levels and a student teacher in a High School Biology class.

Of those students, I have worked with English Learners, students with specific learning disabilites, and students who struggle with depression and anxiety.
