Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During our first few sessions we will review your current skills and challenges in your current work, identify any areas where new learning skills can be applied and focus on general purpose skills. After that we focus on both the things needed to generate the foundation necessary for continued growth after school and to understand your student's long term goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a software engineer who has worked in games and at major industry leaders (NVIDIA) who is taking the skills he learned in industry back to the world of education to better prepare upcoming students for continued growth after school.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Prices vary depending on complexity of material starting at $20/hr for standard high school level courses (i.e. non-AP courses) up to $50/hr to work on post-college personal project assistance/learning (e.g. I'll help you build your game/app!)
How did you get started teaching?
I've been doing teaching on and off since high school as a tutor and have spent time teaching students at all ages via iD Tech Camps and professionally teaching co-workers how to use the software that I created for my industry work.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your tutoring goals? Pass your class? Pass the AP exam? Build skills for a professional career? Make sure to communicate these to your tutor to assist them in being able to assist you best.
