Hello, My name is Dan and I used to be a High School Math Teacher. I have a bachelors degree in Mathematics from UCSD and over 20 years tutoring experience. I am available for online tutoring and some in-person tutoring in San Jose only. My area of expertise is any Math up to Pre-Calculus. I understand that Math doesn't come easy for most and I pride myself into making students feel comfortable and willing to ask questions they otherwise wouldn't in a classroom setting. What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I must get a baseline to see where they are at. Then we discuss goals and come up with a plan to achieve those goals together.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BS in Mathematics. I used to teach High School and have tutored for over 20 years. Most recently added online tutoring.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My base rate is $55/hour but you only pay for what you use. There are no minimums and no maximums. Also, if you refer a student to me then you get a free 30 minute session.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching right out of college because I was always drawn to it. I still have a passion for it and will probably never stop.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked will all ages of students from kindergarten to adult learners taking College courses for miscellaneous reasons.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I simply enjoy hearing how my students grades have improved in such a short time. I also love hearing how I might have impacted someone for the better.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I think the best advice I can give is to make sure you gel with your tutor. You need to feel comfortable with them so as to not be shy when asking questions. We, as tutors, are here for you!

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

I would hope that students wouldn't need to worry about asking questions of their teachers. However, I understand this sometimes is the case and a trustoworthy tutor can alleviate some of that stress.
