About
I am an experienced tutor seeking new students. I have taught middle and high school science, and have tutored high school and college students in biology, chemistry (including organic chemistry), and math (through calculus). I have also volunteered as a docent at the California Academy of Sciences and as a beach naturalist with the Seattle Aquarium.
What's most important to me as a tutor is that I help my students to feel confident and interested in what they're studying; if that works out, the rest is a lot easier. I pride myself on being patient and encouraging, and having high but reasonable expectations of students. The most helpful techniques I use during tutoring sessions include asking questions to gauge understanding, drawing out visual aids, and providing real-world examples.
After graduating from UC Davis with Highest Honors with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, I worked in a cell biology research lab at Stanford for two years before becoming a high school science teacher. I now tutor part-time so that I can be home with my daughter. I am passionate about both teaching and science, and tutoring is a wonderful way for me to share these interests with students who need one-on-one support.
