I have 5 years experience working as a Remediation Assistant using the Orton Gillingham model and other modes to teach reading K-5th.
I love helping kids fill in holes with their reading instruction, and get them back on track, to enrich their education and instill a love of reading.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I guide the student through some quick assessmentst to find their level, any gaps such as letter/sound knowledge, phonemic and word recognition, phonological awareness, comprehension.

How did you get started teaching?
I started volunteering 8 years ago in my daughter's kindergarten class and noticed the necessity for children to get and stay on track with their reading, as it is the cornerstone for their entire education. Staying on track with their peers in school greatly affects their social status and mental well-being. I really wanted to support children who for whatever reason have difficulty.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types of children, different personalities, abilities, and disabilities. Children who are learning English as a second language, ESL.
