Science Tutor Gwen
About
I have a love for Science! I will help students truly learn and master each science course. I have taken AP Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry and currently completing my Bachelors degree in Nursing. In 2019 I also completed my Phlebotimist license which requires multiple different science courses. I am a 4.0 student in college looking to help students excel in their science courses and truly enjoy learning about science!
I enjoy seeing students truly learn and understand what they are being taught. I love science but every subject does not come as easy or enjoyable to me so I can empathize with students stuggling in certain subjects. My goal is to help students fully grasp the information they are learning so that they can have fun learning science along the way.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with a new student is working through my 4 steps:
Step 1: Prep myself for my student(s), reveiew the request form and check appoitment schedule, etc.
Step 2: Meeting my student's needs during a tutoring session. AKA getting to know my students. What are their physological, academic and social needs?
Step 3: Give the ingredients of a good session. Undivided attention to student(s), empathy with their problems, have a sense of humor, encourage student(s), end session on a positive note.
Step 4: End Session: Positively assess the work that was done during each session, give assignments if appropriate, re-schedule for another session, end session with a positive comment.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I am fond of is one of my past student's was struggling with microbiology. It is a very complex subject so I understood her frustration when not fully grasping the subject how she wanted. To help her succeed I would help her study her new material she was taught after each microbiolgy class. Her learning style was repetition. We would reread her notes, her microbiology book sections and go through the questions she had on certain sections and I would answer the question to help her understand. After our session she would complete her homeowork and reread her notes. She completd her microbiology course with an A+, she aced her exams and was able to confidently say she truly learned microbiology.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise the student to find a tutor who you are compatible with. You will be spending time with your tutor a few hours per week and you definetly want to get along with them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is being learned? What is the topic? What does the teacher want us to focus on?
What seems most important about what is being learned? What is the "big idea"?
What do I already know and not know about this?
Why is this important?
