Science And Writing Tutoring
About
I have a Bachelors degree in sustainability which means that I have had extensive experience communicating science ideas to non-scientists unlike most biology or pure science majors. I have also taught for one year and worked as a tutor in classrooms which means that I know what teachers expect and the best methods for individualizing instruction.
I love teaching and I never give up helping students grow and build their understanding. I have worked with students coming from difficult circumstances including learning English as a second language, and having learning and behavioral disabilities so no amount of difficulty can dissuade me!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically like to investigate why a student is having trouble. Sometimes it is because they lack the background knowledge to understand new content. Other times it is because they aren't interested in learning or the assignments. Knowing why students are struggling allows me to better help them!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught in classrooms as a student teacher or tutor for over a year which means that I know what teachers are looking for and ways to differentiate and individualize instruction. I also have extensive field experience in science, traveling to South Africa, Spain, and around the US studying ecosystems and wildlife biology.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do not have a standard price range. I generally like to make above 17$ an hour however, I'm willing to work with studentsand there resources.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching my junior year of college when I began to give sustainability lessons to middle and elementary school students. I discovered my passion and went on to enroll in a program to become a science teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a diverse student population. As an in class tutor I worked with middle school students needing remediation who were often ESL students or had a learning disability. I have also worked with 2nd through 4th graders and 9th graders in a sustainability context.
