I love working with children. I have previous experience working as a full-time nanny. I am currently working full-time as a teaching assistant with special needs students in an academic setting. I am fully comfortable working with children with special needs, medical conditions, and students that exhibit behaviors. I am certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED.
Academics:
I have been privately tutoring in math, reading, and writing for 6 years with special needs and general population students. I am available for test prep, general tutoring, and editing/proof-reading of assignments.
I offer a kindergarten prep course during the summer months for younger students that either haven't taken any preschool classes, or students that could benefit from a little extra help before the school year starts.
Music:
My main instrument is violin (17 years of experience). I personally play the violin, viola, cello, drums, piano, and all mallet instruments. I am also classically trained in percussive instruments.
I have been tutoring in music performance for 8 years and giving private lessons for 6. I am very knowledgable about music theory and have taken college level course work in music theory and performance.
My lessons are based around each individual student and take into account the student's ability and interests. All my students, regardless of instrument, are instructed in the foundations of music theory and performance.
Services offered include:
Violin Instruction, ages 7 and up (I am willing to instruct younger depending on motor skill development and parental support).
Concert/Audition Prep for all instruments and ages.
Music Theory instruction.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student my first goal is to identify their needs and assess their abilities so I can create level-appropriate instruction for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a high school diploma and an Associates Degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University. I have taken additonal courses in early childhood education. I also have several years of academic tutoring experience and have previously worked as a student mentor. In regards to music lessons, I have over a decade of performance experience and 8 years experience in tutoring and instruction.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone you are going to be comfortable with and one that you click with. If you aren't comfortable with your teacher then you aren't going to gain as much as you have the potiental for.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should ask their teacher what they expect of them as their student.
