Krista’s Tutoring
About
One of my students received a perfect score on her AIMS exams in writing. She has gone on to freelance for Vogue magazine.
I can and have worked with students with learning disabilities and have strategic methods to work around them and learn to overcome.
I tutored college level German and my group’s scores went up by at least 1 grade.
I love to learn and teach something new and have fun. I also really love the look in a kid’s face when they finally understand a concept for the first time. Tutoring and teaching are necessary, but they don’t have to be boring!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Get to know who the student is and glean his abilities through a series of games to test where they are on the educational scale. Then, once we have found where the student needs work, I can create a curriculum tailored to each individual child.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Political Science w/ a minor in Criminal Justice Administration, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Secondary Education with specialization in English, History, Government and German for grades 7-12. I taught 7th, 8th at a middle school and all high school levels.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Initial testing: $25
Tutoring for Secondary Level:
1 Subject: $20/hour
2 or more: $30/hour
Tutoring for college students: $25/hour
How did you get started teaching?
After I received my first degree, I went into teaching because I knew how much I needed good teachers. My teachers cared and were compassionate, but also expected you to work hard. I wanted students to feel as if they can come to me with anything. I loved the classroom, but have found that students learn better in a conducive environment away from peers. I tutored Math and History at a local high school and twice a week after school for all 6-8th graders when I was teaching at the middle school.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types from SPED to AP students. Poor to rich, and all races and religions. I tend to work well with kids 1 on 1 for big issues and then have some group sessions where they play educational games like Constitutional Jeopardy. In the classroom, I have worked with all socioeconomic backgrounds and students with emotional and behavioral issues.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am very fond of the Red for Ed movement. Teachers are the backbone of education and they need to be compensated justly.
Another event was one put on by my Law Fraternity- School of ROK - rights of kids. We brought in speakers: police, lawyers, etc.. They walk away with knowledge of the legal system and their constitutional rights and responsibilities as good citizens.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who will challenge you. Tutoring is to supplement the daily activities in school. The student should find a tutor they feel comfortable with and who treats them like they can conquer the world, one sentence or math problem at a time. Do not get discouraged. Find someone who will uplift you and encourage your dreams.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Tell your tutor what you feel you struggle with in school. Tell me your grades and show me your last exams. We will go through each one together until they learn the material.
Ask about expectations- how much can we lift grades and overall understanding?
Ask about their technique, is it worksheets or original lessons.
Ask if your tutor can give you the tools to move forward.
