JH Tutoring Services
About
I'm will to meet at the student location, public libraries or eateries; whatever it takes to meet with the student to provide service.
I revel in the success of students that I tutor. I love the moment you see a light in a student's eyes right before they smile and say, "I get it!"

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During our first meeting I find out where the student is in their course and what their issues are. I then model for the student how to solve the problem. We then do a problem together on a white board. Next I ask the student to do the next problem alone and to refer back to white board or example from textbook, if they need to. We then complete the assignment and preview the next lesson, before the close of the session.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a M.A. in Education from Cal State University, as well as teaching Math for Mesa Public Schools for the past decade and a half. I've also privately tutored for the past 10 years outside of teaching
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40 per hour for all services provided.
How did you get started teaching?
Teaching is a second career for me. Prior to teaching I was a project manager for a software company in Silicon Valley, as I have a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management for the University of Phoenix, as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've tutored students ranging from 2nd grade through forth year college students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was preparing one of my favorite students for the SAT and ACT. This particular student needed to up his scores in order to get into his dream university. We were able to accomplish this goal and he is awaiting word from several universities that he recently visited back east. He has no anxiety during this senior year of high school, because he has the grades and aptitude test scores to be accepted at any of these highly acclaimed institutions.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a student to be open to listening.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should be ready to relate where they specifically need guidance. Many students say I don't get it, but haven't put in the work to know exactly what they don't get.
