Hi, I'm Merritt. I'm a National Board Certified English Language Arts teacher (highest certification in the US) with 6 years of classroom and 10+ years of tutoring experience. I specialize in test prep (SAT, ACT, AP), college admissions essays, AP Lang / Lit, and K-12 reading comprehension and writing. I have worked with students 2nd grade to college to help them build on their strengths and improve their challenges.
As an expert teacher, I have a proven track record of results. I have helped increase reading achievement by 100% within in 4 years at my school and was nominated as regional Teacher of the Year. My spelling / grammar students have increased their skills by multiple grade levels within just a few short months. My SAT students have increased their scores by 100+ points. My AP students consistently pass with 4s and 5s on the exam. My university-bound students have gained admission to competitive undergraduate, masters, law, and PhD programs.
I can achieve these results because I make individualized plans for each of my students. I take the time to get to know them as both a person and a learner. This allows me to quickly identify their underlying challenges and utilize their strengths and interests to create motivating and highly effective programs. I use research-proven curriculum and materials while targeting specific skills and strategies.
