STEM Tutor
About
Hello! My name is Mason Smith and I have spent many years at ASU mentoring and tutoring young engineers. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time helping these students grow and develop into experts in their field. In fact, my goal is to become a professor of engineering to continue this throughout my career. To that end, I am currently finishing up my PhD in Systems Engineering where I research methods for integrating cognitive models (psychology) and AI decision-making. During all my graduate programs, I maintained a 4.0 average and developed a broad set of skills from psychology to robotics.
I believe in a tutoring approach that develops intuition and a well-rounded understanding of topics instead of rote memorization and high-volume practice. From my experience, this seems to be more effective for learning and retaining information long-term. Plus, it is more fun! During our sessions, I develop personalized problems and lesson plans for students that are tailored to their unique interests and learning needs. I also provide all material from our session for later reference in addition to supplementary practice problems that focus on identified areas of improvement.
