About
Hi! My name is Rachel. I am currently an honors college student studying Physics at Central Arizona College with aspirations to pursue a PhD in Physics/Astrophysics. My educational journey was unique as I was "unschooled," which is a method of schooling that does not have a stable/traditional curriculum. This approach to my schooling, combined with being dyslexic, gave me significant challenges in learning. I had to teach myself every school subject, including how to write. Despite these struggles, I was able to earn my GED. Because of this experience, I understand the value of independent learning and the importance of personalized and focused tutoring for each individual student.
Because of these struggles, I know how to work through learning obstacles and turn these struggles into progress. I discovered my passion for Physics all on my own through self-exploration, and I would love to help others discover their passions in academia, whether it's STEM or another subject.
In the past I have tutored college students as well as middle schoolers, but I would love to start tutoring elementary students and high school students, as well as adult learners. I have mostly tutored Math, but I have also tutored English and proofread for students. In my tutoring sessions, I aim to create a comfortable and patient environment where students feel comfortable to ask me questions and feel confident that they can eventually understand the material. My approach to tutoring involves breaking down complex topics into manageable individual steps, and finding where the student gets stuck. Once I find the specific roadblock they have, I work through the concept slowly using related examples and intuitive explanations to ensure they fully understand the topic. If this doesn't work, I patiently continue to sit with the student and help them along the way.
Feel free to reach out if you have questions or if you would like to schedule a session!
