I am currently in college, so much of the material I will be covering are things that I have just recently gone over. I am a psychology major, so I have been taught how to work with others, and I have been taught the different styles of learning and how to best cater to each individual.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I like to have them explain to me why they feel they are struggling in a certain area. I believe that most people can understand a subject; they are just being taught it in a way that does not align with their learning style. Then if it's a mathematical or a scientific problem, I would start with an easy practice problem and go through it step by step, allowing them to stop and ask me any questions. Then we would go into detail about what they did not understand and slowly work our way up to a more difficult problem. If it is an English issue, we would start with the different parts of a sentence and slowly break down grammar since many teachers will give students too much information at once, and it can be overwhelming.
