The Inductive Step

Becoming confident, independent, and consistently successful in mathematics begins with creative problem solving and inductive reasoning. These pillars of mathematical success are certainly obtainable goals for all youth but the modern math classroom is not always equipped to help students attain these goals. I aim to change that.

My teaching methods begin with experienced observations about your student's classroom schedule, teacher-learner outcome expectations, and homework prioritization among all academic classes. With this data, I begin to coach your student on how to best prioritize and optimize their homework time. Following this, we begin attempting exercises together while gradually giving more autonomy to your student until they can confidently complete their assignments stress-free.

Next, we transition to note-taking strategies with an emphasis on how to become more indepedent in learning mathematics. This includes activities which teach your student how to build examples to challenge pre-conceived notions, how to ask questions, and how to experiment with new knowledge.

The final step is implementation into the classroom. Your student will be coached on how to share this new-found level of independence with their peers and their teacher. In doing so, we create a connection between expectations in the home, in the classroom, and in my practice.

This method is a culmination of a decade of tutoring and teaching experience, training tutors, and studying education/development theory.

I enjoy watching students become more indepedent in mathematics. I enjoy the journey from "I don't know how to even get started" to "ya, I can see how the rest of the exercises are a lot like the ones we've already done".
