About
My service stands out because my teaching background allows me to teach the content, rather than just show the content. It doesn't help the student if the teacher or tutor is just completing example problems and not explaining the why behind the method. I also adapt my lessons for each unique student. No two lessons are alike even if the content is the exact same.
I enjoy seeing the expression on my students faces when they actually understand the content! It becomes this magical moment where everything just seems to click.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to spend some time during the first lesson getting to know the student. It is important that I understand my student's goals and dreams so that I can best prepare them for what lies ahead. Many times, I am also able to adapt the learning to their interests. I love showing students how math is actually applicable to the things they already love doing! After the first lesson, I have a better idea of what is best for the student. During the lesson, I try to present the mathematics from a perspective that the student understands the most. There are many ways to solve all math problems, the trick is finding one that makes sense. During our lessons I will present multiple perspectives until I get a better understanding of how the student thinks. I also like to work with the student on a Big Ideas sheet that lists all of the main points that were discussed so that the student can quickly review this right before a test. If the lessons a reoccuring, I like to take time at the end of the lesson to look over the next sessions content so that if applicable I can prepare something that may better help the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Education degree. Both were obtained at the University of Alabama. After receiving my graduate degree in Secondary Mathematics Education, I taught middle school for two years. My work and education background has taught me not only the mathematics, but more importantly how to teach the mathematics. I also understand the ins and outs of a traditional school setting and can give my students useful tips on how to succeed in the classroom.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charged $50 per hour
A 30 minute session would cost $25, but a 2 hour session would cost $100.
Please let me know if you are interested in a group session and we can discuss pricing options.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started teaching because I wanted to inspire students to believe in themselves and chase their dreams. I love tutoring because I am able to have 1 to 1 conversations, really get to know the student, and adapt the learning to each unique student.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elementary school students all the way to graduate level students. I have worked with students from low socioeconomic backgrounds to students from very high socioeconomic backgrounds. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, or how old you are, ALL people can learn math!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When hiring a math or physics teacher, I think the most important thing is to find someone that can actually explain the material. I might be easy to find some who "knows" the material, but if they can not present it in a way that you understand then they are not actually helping you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are you wanting help with? Homework? Studying for a test? Learning a specific concept?
What are your goals for our sessions together?
Are you going to do your part to learn the material?
