About

I am a highly prepared person. I typically take one of two approaches with students. Either I supplement what they are learning in school by helping on homework or for test preparation, which means that they are receiving homework or practice from their school, or I provide homework and practice. Basically, I require students to be practicing outside of our sessions because it makes the sessions much more effective. I like consistent contact with the student or their parents, as long as I am able to assign practice for the student and communicate on how the practice is going throughout the time I am helping. My favorite subjects to tutor are high school math subjects, such as geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus, as well as ACT and SAT prep. I was a successful student in high school, earning 100s in most of my math classes, the National Merit Scholar award, and a 35 on the ACT (though I am perpetually frustrated that I did not get a 36). I remember being frustrated as a student because my tutors typically had more knowledge than I, but had not been as successful in school, and thus could not provide any tips for academic success that I did not already know. Therefore, I work best with honors-level students and above who have a similar issue. I did very well in high school, am graduating the University of Alabama with my BA two years early despite having a double-major, and i will finish my Master's degree two years early as well. I feel like I have a lot of tips for school in general to help already successful students finally harness their hard work and actually derive the full benefit from it, so that is how i stand out as a tutor.

I enjoy tutoring because I feel like I have very unique tips to provide students, and I love sharing these tips that will increase student success but that students for one reason or another have never been told. I have been tutoring for Varsity tutors for some time, but they take a high percentage of my earnings, so I would like to try tutors.com. My reviews on Varsity tutors rate me at a 4.8/5 stars, and if you would like to read them individually, please feel free to contact me because I would love to show them to you.

I had Cadence as my SAT prep tutor. She provides lots of helpful resources outside the sessions, like prep books, and she personalizes your homework based on what she sees you struggling with during sessions. After tutoring with her, I increased my ACT score four points.

Cadence is great. Shes always well-prepared with activities for each session of SAT Prep. She also has games like SAT jeopardy to help break up the monotony when we studied. I would definitely recommend her for test prep!

Frequently asked questions

I look over students' syllabi to see what they will need to know for their classes, and then I do practice providence during the first session based on each topic to determine where students' weaknesses lay.  Students may also take diagnostic exams before our session or provide homeworks with which they are struggling for me to determine what to address.

I have been tutoring for years, and I am currently working on my Master's degree in political science at the University of Alabama.  I am also in the process of being certified by the National Tutors Association.

I charge my hourly rate for each session, but I do not charge any fees for last-minute rescheduling or appointments that are missed but rescheduled.

I began tutoring in high school, teaching high school math and chemistry as well as catching ESL students up with their curriculums in a program called Abrienda Puertas (Opening Doors).

I have worked with students of all ages as well as ESL students.

I have a pet bunny, and sometimes she sabotages my tutoring sessions by hopping on my keyboard or trying to throw my phone off my desk.

Find someone who is oriented toward your student.  If they're highly ambitious, find an ambitious tutor.  If the student struggles with study skills, maybe find a teacher who has experience with students who need guidance for organization.

They need to know their end goals and their weaknesses before asking for help so that help can be catered toward them.
