About
I earned my Ph.D. at the University of California, San Francisco in the area of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. According to the US News & World Report, UCSF consistently ranks among the top ten schools for graduate study in the area of Biochemistry / Biophysics / Structural Biology. I earned my B.A. from Swarthmore College in Chemistry. I am a published scientific author. My research interests focus on examining the structural biology of membrane proteins using X-ray crystallography.
I have extensive experience tutoring chemistry courses at the college and graduate level, and am open to tutoring middle and high school students.
I have experience as a teaching assistant for General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry courses. This involved leading recitation courses for undergraduate and professional students, and also assisting with teaching undergraduate laboratory sections. I have experience with proctoring and grading exams, which is a definite advantage when tutoring because I know how university exams are structured and can give tips on how to prepare for exams.
Students have a variety of career goals when studying chemistry, and I work hard to meet their needs when I am tutoring. Some students are preparing for medical school and need to pass challenging chemistry courses to do so. Others have the goal of moving on to nursing or pharmacy school. Some of my students aim for careers or higher education in chemistry. Understanding the principles of chemistry serves as a stepping stone that lets them accomplish their career goals.
