Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first goal when working with a new student is to identify their specific needs. Once their needs are identified, I like to see examples of their work output. After reviewing, I discuss my comments with the student, going line by line through their work and identifying ways it can be improved.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Philosophy degree which involved a great deal of writing for high-level classes. Additionally, I am a Business Analyst, which requries professional writing skills on a daily basis.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge 25$ an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
When I was in school many of my friends needed assistance with their writing, and so I began by helping them.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with Highschool and College students mostly, but I do have experience tutoring Elementary students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently visited some family in Oregon and went on a climbing trip with them to Smith Rock. It was a very enjoyable experience and helped reinforce my love of climbing outdoors!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for tutors who are willing to give you personal 1-on-1 instructions. Make sure they dedicate the time necessary to make sure you understand a concept before moving on.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The most important things a student can keep in mind before contacting a tutor are their specific goals. Are you trying to get a specific assignment done before its due date, or are you trying to improve your general skills? Being clear with the tutor about your goals will help your tutor achieve them with you.
