About
Illumination Tutoring is a small tutoring business located in the North Texas area. We believe that with patient and compassionate support all students are capable of achieving their academic potential and developing a positive relationship with learning.
Although I typically support learning and academic growth in students of all ages, grades, and skill levels, I am currently only supporting students with dyslexia. As I earn my certification in Dyslexia Therapy, I am offering therapy services to students not receiving therapy through their school district. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I am very happy to discuss the therapeutic approach, central objectivites, and scientific foundations with parents and students alike.
Hi there! My name is Mia, and I am a professional educator who loves learning and supporting learning in others. My professional experiences in education range from working as a full time tutor at a community college to working as a private tutor for elementary aged students. Currently, I am a teacher and mentor at Fusion Academcy where I lead secondary students through English and History courses. The most rewarding aspect of tutoring for me is the relationships that I build with students as they grow into mature readers, writers, and thinkers.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first session for a new student is a little different than repeating sessions. I like to discuss the student’s and family member’s goals for tutoring. I also like to ask questions about a student’s experience in education, after school interests, and academic strengths. I also provide students with a brief learning styles quiz so that we can structure future tutoring sessions to match a student’s learning style. Depending on your pre-tutoring consultation, the rest of the session will either focus on assigned classwork or an activity that I have prepared.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My professional experiences in education range from working as a full time tutor at a community college to working as a private tutor for elementary aged students. I enjoy working with students of all ages in several different subjects. However, the most rewarding aspect of tutoring for me is the relationships that I build with students as they grow into mature readers, writers, and thinkers.
In my role as a full time tutor in a community college setting, I supported English Language Learners, non-traditional students, student veterans, and first time in college students with grammar, writing, reading, and content clarification for humanities courses. As a private tutor, I have helped students with everything from beginning reading and writing to college application essays. I additionally work as a freelance editor and writer where I regularly practice the lessons I teach to students.
