About

I enjoy helping students of all levels of math. I like to help students find the "lightbulb moment" when they truly understand a new concept. I will go back and review problems a student has struggled with so they are ready to move on to the next step in their math classes. I do not charge for phone calls if a student has a question while trying to complete homework and they are unsure how to begin to solve the problem. The student can send a picture of the problem to me via text, and I will help them. My husband and I are “empty nesters” now and I am hoping to tutor several students for the 2024-2025 school year in their math course. Generally, I need to meet with a student once a week and then assess with parent(s) how student’s performance is changing. For a test or if a student finds a concept very difficult, meeting more than once a week can be helpful. I can meet with students as much as they and their parents feel is necessary.

    Frequently asked questions

Introducing myself and sharing a little bit about myself. Tell them we'll begin with something they already understand and learn new things. For high school students in a specific subject, I look over homework and what they have learned and go over any questions they have before moving onto new material. I enjoy teaching students of all ages.

    -Former high school mathematics teacher

    -Tutored 2nd-8th graders at Marhnathasium

-Served as the math tutor at Fortris College of Nursing

-Have tutored students of all levels and capabilities throughout my adult life.

-I thoroughly enjoy math and helping others understand.

I feel a minimum of an hour is necessary for math tutoring. If your student does not have math homework on a regular basis, I will leave something for them to practice for the next meeting.

I charge 27.00/hr. I live in Hilliard and am willing to travel up to 30 minutes to meet with a student I am tutoring. I also tutor students in my home. Parents are welcome to stay.

I substituted the first year I had my teaching license in Ohio, and then I taught at my first high school. I took a big 15 yr time out as I had my two kids and focused my time on raising them. As an empty nester, tutoring during the afternoons, early evenings on weekdays as well as some hours on Saturdays helps me strike a wonderful balance in life. I also score standardized tests for DRC, primarily in the summer.

All types. Some students want to receive an A in their math class. Other students who struggle with Math are happy with a C. We all have different gifts and capabilities. I realize that while some students may struggle in math, they also play in the band or participate in a different school activity at which they excel. They may just need a little extra help in math with a tutor. That is why I am here.
I helped a student through the school year in Alg. II. She was struggling, but also putting forth her best effort. I saw her twice a week and we often did homework problems over the phone. She ended up with a C for the year. I told her how happy and proud I was for her. Many students fail Alg.II. Others get by with a D. Yet, she had truly earned her C.
You should feel free to ask your tutor any question. This helps me see where you can use further explanation. Your math teacher wants you to succeed, as do I. Please complete all homework assignments on time. Math is a subject that builds with each new concept.
Ask themselves if they are completing homework assignments. Ask the teacher if they can meet with them before/after school or during lunch to go over problems they are having difficulty with, even though they are giving their very best effort. If a student is still struggling, ask teacher if the teacher thinks a private tutor could help.
